- Coconino Plateau and Vicinity. This represents a staff project by B. E. Nelson and R. L. Hartman and RM Associate Dr. James Fowler. Fieldwork was conducted during the summers of 2004, 2005, and 2006, with plans for future work. The area encompassed largely ponderosa pine expanses on the Mogollon, Coconino, and Kaibab plateaus and in the White Mountains (Apache, Coconino, Kaibab, Prescott, Sitgreaves, and Tonto National Forests; Apache, Coconino, Gila, Greenlee, Navajo, and Yavapai counties) for a total of 8,054 mi2 ranging in elevation from 5,000 to 12,633 feet. Collected were 6,700 specimens documenting 1,028 unique taxa. Emphasis was on exotics and noxious weeds although the general flora was also documented. A total of 5 State records were discovered. Species of conservation concern totaled 25 taxa documented at 56 sites. Vouchered were 13 noxious weeds. Funding the Rocky Mountain Research Station, U.S. Forest Service and the University of Wyoming.
